5 Ways Nvidia’s Expanding AI Strategy Could Impact MSPs

Nvidia’s AI strategy is expanding well beyond selling GPUs.

According to Yahoo Finance, two recent deals illustrate how the company is strengthening its position across the broader AI infrastructure ecosystem. Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion in MediaTek, while a separate $35 billion arrangement involving Anthropic and cloud provider Lambda will rely on Nvidia-powered computing infrastructure.

Together, the moves show how AI competition is expanding across chips, networking, cloud capacity, and the infrastructure required to run demanding AI workloads. For MSPs, these developments offer a glimpse into where the AI technology stack may be heading.

1. AI Infrastructure Is Becoming a Bigger Ecosystem

Nvidia has become synonymous with GPUs, but its strategy increasingly reaches across a broader infrastructure environment that includes CPUs, networking, and other technologies supporting AI data centers.

For MSPs, that means understanding AI infrastructure as an interconnected stack rather than focusing on individual products.

MSP Action: Build familiarity with compute, networking, cloud services, and management requirements when discussing AI infrastructure with clients.

2. Custom AI Chips Could Create More Choices

Nvidia’s $3.5 billion investment in MediaTek supports custom chips, an area where alternatives such as Amazon Web Services’ Trainium and Google’s TPUs are already competing.

More specialized hardware could eventually give organizations additional choices for different AI workloads.

MSP Action: Evaluate AI infrastructure according to workload, performance, integration requirements, cost, and the client’s existing technology environment rather than assuming one architecture fits everyone.

3. Cloud Capacity Will Remain Critical

The $35 billion arrangement involving Anthropic and Lambda highlights the enormous computing resources required to support advanced AI.

Under the arrangement described by Yahoo Finance, Anthropic will rent data center and server capacity from Lambda, with Nvidia technology powering that compute infrastructure.

MSP Action: Help clients determine whether AI workloads belong in public cloud, specialized AI infrastructure, on-premises environments, or a combination based on their requirements.

4. Vendor Ecosystems Could Matter More

Even as custom chips create potential competition for Nvidia GPUs, Nvidia can still participate by supplying networking and other critical infrastructure.

That demonstrates how AI competition may increasingly involve complete technology ecosystems rather than individual components.

MSP Action: Evaluate AI vendors based on their broader ecosystems, including interoperability, networking, management capabilities, partner relationships, and long-term flexibility.

5. AI Infrastructure Can Create New Advisory Opportunities

Most MSP clients will not be building massive AI data centers. However, infrastructure decisions at the top of the market can eventually influence the cloud services, platforms, and AI capabilities available to smaller organizations.

That gives MSPs an opportunity to translate complex developments into practical business decisions.

MSP Action: Develop AI infrastructure expertise that helps clients determine which emerging capabilities actually matter for their workloads, budgets, and business objectives.

Preparing for the Next AI Infrastructure Shift

Nvidia’s latest moves demonstrate how AI infrastructure is expanding beyond individual processors. Compute, networking, custom silicon, cloud capacity, and strategic partnerships are becoming increasingly interconnected.

MSPs do not need to predict which architecture will dominate. Their opportunity is to understand how the market is evolving and help clients make informed decisions as new AI infrastructure options emerge.
