AI’s Next Leap: Lessons for MSPs from the “Godparents of AI”

The people who shaped artificial intelligence are now saying something extraordinary: human-level intelligence in machines is already here — at least in certain domains.

At the Financial Times Future of AI Summit, six technology pioneers known as the “Godparents of AI”Jensen Huang (Nvidia), Yann LeCun (Meta), Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, Fei-Fei Li, and Bill Dally — shared how AI’s evolution toward general intelligence is already transforming how we work, think, and build.

For Managed Service Providers (MSPs), the shift represents both opportunity and urgency. The rise of intelligent systems will redefine how MSPs deliver value, automate operations, and protect clients. Here are five lessons from AI’s founding visionaries that can guide MSPs in navigating what’s next.

1️⃣ AI Is Meant to Augment, Not Replace, Human Expertise

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described today’s AI as “intelligence that augments people — it does work.” AI isn’t just a passive data processor anymore; it’s an active collaborator that enhances human output and accelerates workflows.

For MSPs:
Think of AI as your new team member. Deploy it where it amplifies your team’s expertise — in predictive monitoring, smart automation, or security analysis. The future belongs to MSPs that pair human intuition with machine precision.

2️⃣ Intelligence Will Expand Progressively, Not Overnight

Meta’s Yann LeCun emphasized that artificial general intelligence (AGI) won’t appear as a single event. Instead, AI’s intelligence will scale progressively across industries and domains.

For MSPs:
Adopt AI gradually but deliberately. Start with specific, measurable applications such as automating service tickets, optimizing resource allocation, or identifying network anomalies. Build an internal feedback loop to learn from early deployments before scaling.

3️⃣ Human Judgment Still Defines Value

Fei-Fei Li, one of AI’s leading researchers, reminded attendees that even as machines perform incredible cognitive feats, they lack moral reasoning and emotional awareness.

For MSPs:
Your human insight is the differentiator. When deploying AI, frame it as a co-pilot, not a replacement. Help clients interpret complex analytics and guide them through ethical and operational implications. Human-led guidance turns technical expertise into trusted advisory power.

4️⃣ Agility Will Outperform Size

Geoffrey Hinton, one of the original creators of deep learning, suggested that AI could surpass human reasoning in specific areas within decades. Whether or not that timeline holds, agility remains the deciding factor.

For MSPs:
Be nimble. Encourage your teams to experiment with new AI tools, integrations, and automations. The most adaptive MSPs — not necessarily the largest — will lead the next generation of service delivery. Speed of learning beats scale of operation.

5️⃣ Ethics and Transparency Are Your Competitive Edge

Yoshua Bengio cautioned against both overconfidence and blind optimism. With power comes responsibility — and clients will increasingly demand transparency in how AI is used and trained.

For MSPs:
Integrate ethical AI practices into your operations. Clearly communicate how client data is handled, processed, and protected. Transparency isn’t just compliance — it’s an asset that builds long-term trust in an AI-driven ecosystem.

AI’s “Godparents” didn’t just celebrate what machines can do — they challenged us to consider how we’ll use this power responsibly.

For MSPs, the path forward is about combining innovation with integrity: adopting automation without losing the human touch, exploring AI’s potential while guarding against its risks.

The firms that embrace this dual mindset will be the ones shaping — not chasing — the future of managed services.
